Support

Diarion is made by one person. Write to support@diarion.org with questions, bugs and ideas. A reply can take a few days.

Good to know up front: the developer has none of your data, none of your backup passphrases and none of your PINs. That is not a support limitation, it is how the app is built: everything stays on your phone. Which is why the first question below is about backups.

Common questions

How do I move my data to a new phone?
  1. On the old phone: Settings → Data → Backup & Restore → Export Backup.
  2. Choose a passphrase for the backup. The app does not store it anywhere, so keep it somewhere safe.
  3. In the share sheet, save the .diarionbackup file anywhere you like: your phone's files, a message to yourself, a drive.
  4. On the new phone, install Diarion, open Settings → Data → Backup & Restore → Import Backup, pick the file and enter the same passphrase.

Restoring overwrites the current data on the new phone, and the app warns you before it does. Restart it afterwards.

I do not remember my backup passphrase

Nobody can open that backup, the developer included: the file is encrypted with a key derived from your passphrase, and the app never stores the passphrase. This is deliberate. Otherwise anyone who got hold of the file could open it.

If the data is still on your phone, simply make a new backup with a new passphrase.

I forgot my PIN

There is no “reset by email”, because there is no account: the PIN is a lock against exactly the person who picked up your phone.

  • If Face ID or fingerprint unlock is on, unlock with it, then go to Settings → Security and tap “Remove PIN” or “Change PIN”.
  • If biometrics are off, access to the data on this phone cannot be recovered. What remains is to reinstall the app (the data is lost) and restore a backup, if you have one.

After five wrong attempts the app pauses for 30 seconds. That is brute-force protection, not a permanent lock.

How do I export my entries to ordinary files?

Settings → Data → Export data, then JSON, CSV or Markdown. The file is produced on the phone and handed to the share sheet. These are open formats: JSON for programs, CSV for spreadsheets, Markdown reads as plain text.

How do I delete all my data?

Either Settings → Data → “Delete all my data”, or simply delete the app: its storage goes with it. There is no need to write to the developer, who has none of your data and never did.

The app closed unexpectedly. What now?

On the next launch, Settings → Data shows a “Crash report” block. Tap “Share report” and send it to support@diarion.org. The report is a technical description of the crash (error type, location in the code, time and app version), not your entries. It stays on the phone until you send or delete it yourself.

Do I need an internet connection?

Not for the diary. The network is used in exactly one case: downloading the language model for the AI section (about 123 MB), and only if you start it yourself in Settings → AI. The model runs on the phone and entry text never goes to the network. The app works in full without it.

Which devices does Diarion run on?

iPhone with iOS 15 or later, and Android 8.0 or later. The interface is available in Ukrainian and English, with three themes.
